We would like to address the questions/comments that are being asked our Board Members through the web site in this space.
Q - will the schedule for in house be posted soon? so plans can be made.
A - All coaches have been emailed the schedule and their roster. If you do not know who your coach is, or you want a copy of the schedule please email
, let me know what team you are on or your child's name, and I will email it out immediately. I should have all the schedules on the web site by this weekend.
Q - I have one question before I sign my child up for spring in-house, is that team on the web site, that won the Tour Championship going to be kept together, or is there going to be a draft? In-house is supposed to be fun, not stacked in anyone's favor
A - The 12U team that won the Tour Championship is strictly a travel team and would not be competing in the in-house season.
Q - Saying M. Roller needed to "organize better" wasn't meant towards the shed or the organization in general, because that is very good. What was meant is that someone on the board needs to find away to bring more children into the program.
A - Advertising is essential to keep the league going. We have placed ads in the Pennysaver last season and this season we have someone who volenteered to pass out flyers in the Carmel School District. We have also asked Carmel Recreation to advertise more. I spoke to representatives from Ossining, Cortlandt and East Fishkill last season and they all say the participation is lower. Yorktown does not even have an in-house program any more. My only guess is that more kids are moving to ice hockey. But with the economy so bad I am hopeful that enrollment in roller hockey will be up because we offer a more inexpensive alternative to ice hockey.
Q - Is there going to be an actual draft this season as in the years past?
A - Nothing would please me more than having a draft this season. However to have a good draft you need coaches. Anyone who would like to coach should note it on their child's registration.
In the Fall we could not do a draft because we had just one Mites team and one Squirts team and we played against other towns like Ossining and Cortlandt. This season we are hoping for at least 3 or 4 teams in each division so we do not have to rely on other towns for games. However, if a town like Ossining wishes to play a few games against us I would be all for that too. The kids seem to love playing town against town.
Q - I truly hope Mahopac Roller will find a way to get more children involved in hockey, because, I've heard a few parents talking of going to East Fishkill if this program doesn't organize better.
A - I am not sure what you mean by "organize better". We encourage parents to get involved to help expand the league. Currently there are only a few parents to help organize, coach and recruit for our league. If any parent feel that there is a better way to organzie the league we encourage them to step-up and become active. We are always looking for new Board Members and coaches. No other league gives away baseball-style caps and hoodies like we have. Our snack shed is fully stocked, we received new equipment for goailes, our web site has scores, stats and schedules. No other town has up-to-date individual stats on their web site like Mahopac did last Spring.
If there are any specific problem that needs to be addressed please let us know.
Q - Having a skating clinic is a good idea.It also would be helpful to have a goalie
clinic once in awhile maybe one or two of the JV goalies would help.
A - We are looking into both a skater's clinic and a goalie's clinic.
Q - When I showed up for my practice on Wednesday evening the away bench was covered with garbage. There were soda bottles, empty pack of cigarettes, cigarette butts, candy wrappers, water bottles, gum wrappers etc. It took me over twenty minutes to clean the mess up. I don't know if this has ever been addressed, or if it even can be addressed, but this was way out of control!!! To say the least it was DISGUSTING!!!!
A - I could not agree with you more. The coaches do enough by giving their time to the kids, I don't think the coaches need to pick up after them too. All the coaches should make sure that the players have cleaned the benches after each practice and game. It is just common curtosy.
Q - why aren't their more adult referees?
A - There are no adult referees because the ones we have will only do travel games. Just like we are trying to develope hockey players, we are also trying to develope referees. I feel very fortunate that we have a group of teenagers that takes reffing seriously. We are priviledged to have them.
